Audit the Fed (HR 1207) Has Majority Support!

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Via press release from Rep. Paul:

Audit the Fed Bill Reaches Crucial Benchmark

 Washington, D.C. -

Congressman Ron Paul’s Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207, has reached and surpassed the level of 218 cosponsors in the House of Representatives, which means it is now cosponsored by a majority of the members.

The 218th cosponsor was Dennis Kucinich (OH-10), and the bill has since received its 222nd cosponsor.

“The tremendous grass-roots and bipartisan support in Congress for HR 1207 is an indicator of how mainstream America is fed up with Fed secrecy,” said Congressman Paul. “I look forward to this issue receiving greater public exposure.”

Hearings on Federal Reserve transparency are expected within the next month, as part of the Financial Services Committee’s series of hearings on regulatory reform.

Six of Nine Washington State Representatives Support HR 1207

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Washington State Congressional District MapIs your Representative supporting transparency by co-sponsoring HR 1207 yet?  We’re doing pretty well here in King County - which includes parts of Congressional Districts 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9.

Washington State Representatives to the US House that are co-sponsors to HR 1207:

If your Representative has signed on already, have you considered thanking them for their support?  Hey, it worked for Pavlov.

Washington State Representatives to the US House that are NOT co-sponsors to HR 1207 (yet):

Why not contact them now to respectfully urge them to support transparency in government by becoming a co-sponsor of a widely supported bill?

Nationwide, the support continues to grow

According to the Library of Congress, there are 179 official co-sponsors to the bill.  The word on the street is that we have commitments from a couple more Representatives for a total of 181.

Know what that means?  Our efforts are paying off!

What is HR 1207?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

HR 1207 is the resolution in the US House of Representatives to Audit the Federal Reserve.

In addition to our $11 trillion national debt, Congress, the Treasury Department, and the Federal Reserve (the “Fed”) have put us on the hook for almost $10 trillion in bailouts and loans. Yet, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke recently flatout said, “No” to Congress when asked to name which financial institutions have received trillions of dollars in these loans from the Fed.

The Federal Reserve, the unelected central bank of the U.S., refuses to fully disclose its operations and agreements to Congress, including details of its deals with foreign central banks and governments.

To end this secrecy and deliver answers to the American people, Congressman Ron Paul has introduced HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act.

HR 1207 will:

  • Require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to perform a complete audit of the Fed by the end of 2010.
  • Reveal the details of agreements the Fed has made with foreign central banks and governments.
  • Show which banks and Wall Street firms have received our money from the Fed.
