Audit the Fed Bill Reaches Crucial Benchmark

Washington, D.C. -

Congressman Ron Paul’s Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207, has reached and surpassed the level of 218 cosponsors in the House of Representatives, which means it is now cosponsored by a majority of the members.

“The tremendous grass-roots and bipartisan support in Congress for HR 1207 is an indicator of how mainstream America is fed up with Fed secrecy,” said Congressman Paul. “I look forward to this issue receiving greater public exposure.”

Hearings on Federal Reserve transparency are expected within the next month, as part of the Financial Services Committee’s series of hearings on regulatory reform.

“ACTION SEATTLE is proposing two Charter Amendments for the November 2009 General Election:

SEATTLE DISTRICTS NOW - The current structure of the City Council is an all at-large Council. Each Councilmember is supposed to represent every Seattle voter. This Amendment would change the structure of the Council to 5 Councilmembers who are elected by voters from their respective districts, and 4 Councilmembers who would be at-large Councilmembers. This structure aligns our governmental structure with the majority of large cities in the U.S. where the Councils are either a majority of district positions with a smaller number of at-large positions, or are Councils of all district-based positions. Read the entire proposed Amendment: Seattle Districts Now

EQUAL CHANCE FOR VOTERS - While Seattle voters have the right to amend the City Charter, we are at a disadvantage because we are only able to present Amendments to the voters in odd election years (which municipal elections occur). Seattle voter interests will be better served by being able to present Charter Amendments in every election year. Read the entire proposed Amendment: Equal Chance for Voters”

Yesterday the supporters of discriminatory health care gathered in downtown Seattle to stage a protest. Bussed in with union money and carrying mass produced signs, the pro-socialized medicine crowd milled lamely about in Westlake Park bleating unenthusiastically. They had an emcee, a stage, and a sound system.

We had the truth. Overflowing the too-small area cordoned off on the sidewalk across from the park, we joined together and raised our voices in defense of freedom. In contrast to the sea of sameness at the pro-single payer rally, the crowd on the right side of the street was full of rugged individualists with homemade signs.

There is more information and an Action Alert to spread the word at Liberty Belle’s (event organizer) blog.
