From ActionSeattle.com:
“ACTION SEATTLE is proposing two Charter Amendments for the November 2009 General Election:
SEATTLE DISTRICTS NOW - The current structure of the City Council is an all at-large Council. Each Councilmember is supposed to represent every Seattle voter. This Amendment would change the structure of the Council to 5 Councilmembers who are elected by voters from their respective districts, and 4 Councilmembers who would be at-large Councilmembers. This structure aligns our governmental structure with the majority of large cities in the U.S. where the Councils are either a majority of district positions with a smaller number of at-large positions, or are Councils of all district-based positions. EQUAL CHANCE FOR VOTERS - While Seattle voters have the right to amend the City Charter, we are at a disadvantage because we are only able to present Amendments to the voters in odd election years (which municipal elections occur). Seattle voter interests will be better served by being able to present Charter Amendments in every election year. Read the entire proposed Amendment: Equal Chance for Voters”
